USSF Academy Teams - Adopt a Family

Dev Academy - Adopt a Family

This year the USSF Carmel United Academy U16 and U18 players decided that they wanted to do something more during this holiday season of giving.  Griffin Drake, a U16 Academy player, got the teams together to see if they would be interested in adopting a family through the United Christmas Service program.  It did not take any convincing for all the players to agree that this was what they wanted to do.

On Sunday, December 14th the players all met at an Indianapolis store to begin shopping for the family of 6 that they had adopted.  The players broke off into groups to shop for a certain family member from the list of items that they were provided with.  Within an hour and a half all the items on the 6 different lists were purchased.  After checking out, they headed to Jesse Miser's home to begin wrapping the gifts that they would deliver later that afternoon to the family in Indianapolis.

Upon arrival at the home of the adopted family, one of the young children was waiting outside their home for the players' arrival.  He welcomed the boys into their home and each Academy player carried gifts in to place under their Christmas tree.  The single mother of 5 was shocked to see what these young men had done for her family and said that they are a true blessing and should be proud of what fine young gentlemen they all are.  She told them this was 100 times more than she had ever expected.

It was a new experience for many of the players to shop and wrap so many gifts in a single day, but they were very excited to be able to do something so wonderful for someone they had never met.  They worked great as a team on this project and really came together for those that are less fortunate.  Each player took away from this project a greater sense of what the season is all about.

Harrison Petts Invited Back to U18 MNT

Following an impressive showing at the January National Team camp and strong play in the first 4 games of the Academy season, Harrison Petts has been called back into the U18 National Team for a camp that takes place March 9-15.  A forward and team captain of the U16 Carmel United Academy, Petts has recroded 5 goals and 2 assists through his first 4 matches this season. The initial training camp included 72 players, but this camp will only consist of 26 players as a basis for training and games as the U18 Men's National Team. There are 22 field players and 4 keepers invited to attend. The roster includes the U 18 residency and national team players.

The U.S. Under-18 Men’s National Team was created to aid in the transition for younger players between the Under-17 Men’s National Team and the Under-20 side. The Under-18 age group is for players born in the odd-numbered years, who fall in a gap between the Under-17 and the Under-20 age groups.

“We will continue to put these players in competitive situations as much as possible to help them improve and prepare them for the next level,” said Jenkins. “Continuing player development is still the most important aspect at this level and with the large number of talented players we have in this group, I have no doubt over the next few years they will continue to progress through the National Team programs.”
